Fabric first
Every fabric needs its own method.
Cotton, linen, velvet, microfibre, wool blends and polyester all react differently to water, heat and cleaning solutions. Use the wrong method and you risk shrinkage, water marks or colour running.
That’s why every upholstery clean starts with the care label and a test on a hidden area. If a fabric can’t be safely cleaned with water, I’ll tell you, rather than take the job and hope for the best.

Fabric check, then the clean
I check the label and test a hidden area, tell you what will come out and what might not, then clean seat by seat.
Before I leave
We look at it together
We go over the arms, seats and back cushions together. Anything that needs more attention gets it straight away, and you’ll know when it’s ready to sit on.
The full upholstery process (8 steps)
- Fabric and care-label check. W, S, WS or X, it decides the method.
- Hidden-area test. Colour and fabric checked before anything else.
- Thorough vacuum. Crevices, seams and under the cushions.
- Pre-treatment. Arms, headrests and individual marks treated.
- Gentle agitation. Soft brushing to lift soil from the weave.
- Rinse and extraction. Controlled moisture with Prochem equipment.
- Fabric grooming. The pile set in one direction to dry evenly.
- Final check and drying advice. When it’s safe to sit on it again.

How much does sofa cleaning cost in London?
The minimum booking is £80. The price depends on the size of the sofa, the number of seats and cushions, the fabric and any stains. Photos on WhatsApp are enough for me to price it. You’ll know the cost before you book.
Can you clean any type of upholstery fabric?
Most fabrics, yes, but not all of them can be cleaned with water. I check the care label first: W and WS fabrics can usually be cleaned on site, while S (solvent only) and X (vacuum only) fabrics need a different approach or shouldn’t be wet cleaned at all. I’ll tell you honestly before I start.
How long does a sofa take to dry?
Most fabric sofas need a few hours, but thicker fabrics and cushions take longer, and a warm, airy room helps. Before I leave I’ll tell you when it should be ready to use.
Will every stain come out?
Many do, but older stains, ink and some dyes can be permanent on upholstery. During the fabric check I’ll point out anything I don’t expect to shift, so there are no surprises.
Can you get rid of pet smells from a sofa?
Often, yes. Odours usually sit deep in the cushion filling rather than on the surface, so they need targeted treatment. I’ll check how far it has gone in and tell you what’s realistic.
Do you clean leather sofas too?
Yes, leather is cleaned and conditioned with a different process from fabric upholstery. Just mention it when you send your photos.
